CMS Football Shuts Out Whittier 39-0 to Stay Perfect in SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Robert Litscher ran for three touchdowns, including a 32-yarder, and Sean Lee kicked three field goals, including a 56-yarder, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned a 39-0 win over Whittier on Saturday at Rogan Stadium.

With the win, the Stags improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCIAC, setting up a big showdown next weekend at Chapman, which was 3-0 coming into a road game at Azusa Pacific later today.

Litscher opened the scoring with a four-yard run just 4:35 into the contest. Aiden Chen then blocked a punt out of the back of the end zone to make it 9-0 with 8:06 left in the half to make it 9-0.

CMS broke it open with two quick touchdowns late in the half, with Litscher running in from one yard to cap off a 52-yard drive with 1:56 to go. After Gavin Naylor had an interception at the Whittier 30-yard line, Litscher found Quintin Craig in the right side of the end zone with a 28-yard pass to increase the lead to 23-0.

Litscher added his 32-yard run in the second half, sandwiched around a 46-yard field goal from Lee, and then a 56-yarder to cap off the scoring. The program record of 62 yards was set by Matthew Aven in 2013.

Litscher was 13-17 passing for 102 yards, as Craig had five catches for 50 yards and Noah Macapulay had five catches for 33 yards. Owen Walz carried 17 times for 112 yards, while George Kruger led the defense with eight tackles, including two for losses and a sack.

CMS and Chapman will play next weekend for the inside track for the regular season title and the right to host the SCIAC Championship game on Nov. 14.
