SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team, ranked No. 4 in Division III, opened its spring season with a 5-2 win over Stanton (NAIA) and a 4-1 win over Point Loma (Division II) on Friday in San Diego.

The Stags opened the day with a match against Stanton, which was hosted by UC San Diego, and they came away with a 5-2 victory, as Amrith Kodumuri and Anirudh Reddy each won in both singles and doubles. Kodumuri teamed with Rohan Yarlagadda for a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles, while Reddy picked up a 6-1 win with Warren Pham at No. 1.

Kodumuri then provided the first point in singles for the Stags with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2. After the Elks got back within 2-1, Reddy earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 to get CMS within one point of the clinch.

Ethan Kim then delivered the team win with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to make the score 4-1. Brandon Vu won a second-set tiebreaker 7-3 to earn a 6-1, 7-6 victory at No. 6 for the final CMS point.

The Point Loma match in the afternoon was played up until the clinch, which Advik Mareedu provided with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles to finish off a singles-doubles sweep.

Mareedu and Settles combined for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles to secure the doubles point, moments after Josh Kim and Sibi Raja earned a 6-1 win at No. 2.

Henry Wilson gave CMS its first singles point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5, which was followed one minute later by Josh Kim, who completed his singles-doubles sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4. Mareedu then completed the 4-1 victory with his win at No. 1.
