CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team outscored CMS 19-10 in the fourth quarter to pull ahead late and take a 54-45 win over the Athenas on Saturday at Voelkel Gymnasium.
CMS slips to 17-7 overall and 11-4 in the SCIAC with the loss, while Pomona-Pitzer improves to 15-8 overall and 10-4 in the SCIAC, pulling even with CMS and Redlands in the loss column for second, one game behind Cal Lutheran.
Katie Resendiz had 12 points and
Caleigh Edwards added 11 for the Athenas in defeat, while Jadyn Lee and Emily Lee each had 13 for the Sagehens.
The score was tied 35-35 heading into the fourth, when the Sagehens went on a 6-0 run on their first three possessions to take the lead for good. Edwards had a three-point play to close it to three, and a Resendiz jumper made it a 46-42 game with 3:38 left, but CMS could come no closer.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday for its regular season finale at Redlands, while Pomona-Pitzer travels to Cal Lutheran as the top four teams in the league standings will battle for postseason positioning.
