LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
Simone Sabeeh earned her second SCIAC diving title by winning the three-meter,
Elyse Newlands picked up her second win by taking the 100-yard breaststroke, and
Madeleine Kan took first place in the 100 fly to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team on Friday at the East Los Angeles College Swim Center.
After three days, the Athenas stand in second place with 678 points, while Pomona-Pitzer is in first with 750. Chapman is a distant third with 292, making it a two-team race heading into the final day.
Sabeeh earned first place in the three-meter dive with 462.85 points to edge out Jana Woo of Caltech with 449.50 to take her second diving title of the weekend.
Josie Kearns was also All-SCIAC for CMS with 440.15 points to come in third, while
Meilan Uyeno was fourth.
Kan then took the 100 fly in 54.30 to make it two Athena champions on the first two events.
Sun Young Byun added an All-SCIAC finish in second place after setting a CMS record with a 54.22 in prelims.
Newlands earned her second win after picking up a victory in the 200 IM yesterday, winning the 100 breast in convincing fashion by almost a full second (1:03.52 to 1:04.35) over Francesca Coppo of Pomona-Pitzer.
Milan Manfredi also earned a podium finish for the Athenas by coming in third in 1:04.72 to earn All-SCIAC honors.
Mackenzie Mayfield (second) and
Olivia Hoyla (third) had All-SCIAC finishes for CMS in the 400-yard IM, with Mayfield finishing in 4:28.19 and Hoyla finishing in 4:33.80. Kan, Mayfield, Newlands and
Annika Sharma ended the day with a second-place performance in the 200 free relay in 1:33.94, just .07 off the CMS record.
The final day will get underway in the morning tomorrow with prelims in the 200 breast, 200 fly, 200 back and 100 free, with the 1650 and 400 free relay also being held.
