BELTON, Texas -
Kody Perry threw five shutout innings to get the win, and
Max Pemberton and
Rider Gordon added homers as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team opened the year with an 11-0 win at Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday.
Gordon hit a two-run homer in the first inning to giving the Stags an early 2-0 lead. In the second inning,
Nate Seluga walked and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Pemberton, extending the lead to 3-0.
The fifth inning saw the Stags break the game open. Seluga singled and scored on a double by
Blaise Heher. Jasper Shue and
Carter Bennett each drove in runs with a single, while
Alex Henderson and
Dillon Martin added RBIs to cap a five-run inning, pushing the lead to 8-0.
In the eighth inning, Shue singled, followed by a two-run homer from Pemberton to make the score final 11-0 and shorten the game to eight RBI.
Perry pitched 5 innings without allowing any earned runs and striking out six batters while conceding only four hits.
Andrew Blackett followed with a perfect inning, striking out one and retiring all three batters faced, contributing to the team's defensive efforts.
Parker McGraw closed the game with two innings of work, allowing just one hit and securing two strikeouts.
All nine starters had hits for the Stags, led by a 3-for-4 effort from Shue. Henderson and Gordon were each 2-for-4, and
Bryce Didrickson went 2-for-5.
The two teams will play the second game of the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time.
