AZUSA, Calif. -
Bryce Didrickson was 4-for-4 with two homers, a double and three RBI as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team used five long balls to take a 12-4 win over Redlands in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday.
With the win, CMS moves to 15-4 on the season and improves its SCIAC record to 5-2. Redlands slips to 10-12 overall and 4-3 in the SCIAC with the loss.
The Stags took a 5-0 lead through three innings, after
Carter Bennett had an RBI single in a two-run first, and a two-run homer in a three-run third, which came after Didrickson hit a solo shot.
Sean McCance hit a grand slam to close the gap to 5-4 for Redlands in the fourth, but the Stags were able to seize back momentum quickly. Didrickson hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth to score
Jett Shue, and
Max Pemberton belted a three-run shot in the fifth to stretch the lead to 9-4.
Didrickson then hit his second round-tripper of the game in the eighth, and
Alex Henderson followed to make it back-to-back solo shots.
Pemberton and Bennett each finished 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI for the Stags, while
Parker McGraw got the win by throwing 4.1 innings of two-hit relief.
The two teams will finish the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at Redlands.
