PASADENA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team outscored Caltech 8-0 in the second half as it was able to pull away for a 15-2 win over Wednesday evening for a SCIA Croad win.
CMS now stands at 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the SCIAC with the win, while Caltech slips to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Grace Clark,
Jordan LaCour and
Valerie Wraith each had three goals for CMS, while
Natalie Stearns had five second-half saves without allowing a goal.
Mason Spencer had three assists from her goalie position in the first half to tie for team-high honors with
Caitlin Muñoz.
CMS started a bit slow, leading just 2-1 after the first quarter behind goals from LaCour and Clark. The lead was still just 5-2 with a minute left in the half, before
Jasmine Tang and
Christina Marlow found the net on two straight possessions to give CMS a 7-2 lead at intermission.
Clark had two of the four Athena goals in the third quarter as CMS went ahead 11-2, and then
Grace Rich and
Pooja Bucklin scored the final two goals to cap off the 15-2 win.
CMS will be back in action on Friday and Saturday when it co-hosts the Claremont Convergence, beginning with a 12:45 game on Friday against California Baptist.
