Athenas Golf Roars Out to 21-Shot Lead After Day One of Westbrook Invite

PEORIA, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team shot even par to open up a huge 21-shot lead after the first day of the Westbrook Invitational hosted by George Fox at the Westbrook Village Golf Club. 

Redlands is in second place at +21, leading a tight pack that includes UC Santa Cruz at +22, George Fox at +23, Trinity at +24 and Arizona Christian at +25. 

Alisa Ching started her day off with an eagle on the first, when she holed out her approach shot from 115 yards for a two on the par-four. Ching finished the round in first place on the individual leaderboard at -3, with Esther Lee in second at -1 and Jessie Kong tied for third at even par. 

Ching also picked up four birdies on her round, including one on the 18th to finish out at -3. Lee had her best stretch at the turn, with birdies on No. 9 and No. 10, and another on No. 14.

Kong had back-to-back birdies on No. 3 and No. 4, and Christine Yu also had an eagle on the par-5 fourth.

The second round of the Westbrook Invitational will get underway tomorrow morning.
