PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished its four rounds at the NCAA Division III Championships at Desert Willow Golf Resort on Friday in a tie for seventh place, marking the program's eighth straight top-10 finish.
Ella Chiu was the top individual finisher for the Athenas, ending the tournament in a tie for 27th place at +8.
Esther Lee, who shot a 70 in her final collegiate round to move up 21 spots, finished in a tie for 36th at +9.
Alisa Ching also earned a 70 in her final round, moving up 14 spots to a tie for 57th for the Athenas.
CMS came into the day in eighth, and had a strong start, at one point jumping into fifth place.
Christine Yu had birdies on No. 10 and No. 12 on two of her first three holes, while Chiu and Ching each had birdies on No. 11.
Lee and Ching also both had birdies on No. 18 as they took the turn, and Lee shot -1 on her final nine holes, picking up birdies on No. 2 and No. 8. Chiu also birdied No. 8 to come in at -1 on the final five holes of her collegiate career.
Emory took the individual title at +2, shooting -4 on the final round to hold off Carnegie Mellon, which pulled even at one point before ending at +9. NYU was the third place team at +14, and Washington and Lee was fourth at +22.
CMS will have to replace Chiu and Lee for next year's squad to keep the run of top 10 finishes going, with Yu, Ching and
Precilla Tea returning off this year's NCAA squad trying to help try to maintain the program's high achievement.
