Athenas Golf Takes Eighth Place at NCAA Preview

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - First-years Charlene Woo and Kate Keith each finished in a tie for 24th at +11 to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team to an eighth-place finish out of 15 teams at the NCAA Preview, hosted by Christopher Newport at the Kingsmill Resort on Monday and Tuesday.

Defending national champion Emory came in first place, followed by NYU and Carnegie Mellon in second and third, matching their 1-2-3 national rankings. WashU was fourth and Randolph Macon came in fifth, while the Athenas were four shots behind Pomona-Pitzer in a close battle between Sixth Street Rivals as CMS closed the gap between them from eight shots to four on Tuesday's second round.

Woo closed out with a birdie on her final hole on Tuesday to move up into the top 25, after also finishing with a birdie on Monday's first round. Alisa Ching was in 31st place at +13 and Emmie Ding was close behind in 38th place at +15 for the Athenas.

Ding closed out with three birdies on her final four holes on Tuesday to make a big leap up the standings, after also birdieing two of her final three holes on Monday. Ching closed out with an eagle on her 16th hole on Monday's first round.

CMS will be back in action in the spring as it will try to earn its way back to nationals again this year and add to its streak of eight straight top-10 finishes, dating back to 2017.
