CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team honored seniors
Advik Mareedu and
Warren Pham prior to the match, and they provided the first two singles win at No. 1 and No. 2 to help the Stags on their way to a 6-1 win over Redlands on Saturday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
With the win, top-ranked CMS moves to 25-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCIAC, while Redlands slips to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Mareedu earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to give CMS a 2-0 lead, extending his program record to 130 singles wins. He tied the previous record of 128, set by Skyler Butts in 2016, yesterday against Hope International in the morning, before breaking it against Whittier in the afternoon.
Pham then followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to put CMS ahead 3-0, as the two seniors were the first to wrap up play. The clinch came from
Henry Wilson at No. 4, who earned a 6-4, 6-4 win to put CMS ahead 4-0.
Sibi Raja then captured a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 3 to make it 5-0, and
Josh Kim earned a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 5 for the final Stags point.
CMS got off to a quick start in doubles, where Mareedu and
Caleb Settles earned a 6-1 win at No. 1. Raja and Kim then added a 6-2 win at No. 2 to secure the doubles point, and Wilson and
Anirudh Reddy finished off the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Caltech on Friday and Occidental on Saturday, before closing out the regular season at home with Pomona-Pitzer on April 25.
