PASADENA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team defeated Caltech 5-2, improving to 5-0 in conference matches this season, and extending its winning streak in SCIAC-sponsored matches to 175, dating back to the 2005 season.
Henry Wilson won in both singles and doubles for the Stags, who improve to 26-1 on the year overall. Caltech falls to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in league play.
CMS was able to quickly earn the doubles point with a 6-0 win from Wilson and
Anirudh Reddy at No. 3, and a 6-1 win from
Josh Kim and
Sibi Raja at No. 2. The Beavers were able to take a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Stags took the 1-0 lead into singles.
The Stags then quickly secured the match win, as
Advik Mareedu added another singles win to his CMS career record with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
Caleb Settles took a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5, and Wilson provided the clinch with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3.
Amrith Kodumuri extended the lead to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6, before Caltech took the final two points at No. 2 and No. 4 singles.
CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it travels to Occidental, looking to improve to 6-0 in league play, before closing out the regular season at home next weekend against Pomona-Pitzer. Wins in both matches would mark the program's 20th straight undefeated season in SCIAC competition. CMS has won 161 straight SCIAC regular season matches, and 14 straight conference tournament games since the SCIAC adopted its current four-team format in 2018.
