CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team moved to 18-1 on the season, including 18 straight wins since an opening-day loss to Division I UC Riverside, with a 7-0 win over Stanton University on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
The Athenas took the doubles point behind a 6-0 win from
Rebecca Kong and
Georgia Garrett at No. 3, followed by a 6-3 win from
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne and
Ananya Sriniketh at No. 2.
After
Leah Baroudi won by retirement at No. 4 singles,
Rachel Garton cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Shifali Dinesh took a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Sriniketh earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Kong had a battle at No. 1 singles with Emilse Ruiz, but was able to come through with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Bell Zhou finished off the shutout win with a comeback win at No. 4, after being down 6-4, 5-1, and 40-0 she fought off six match points, rattled off five straight games, and earned a 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 win to help CMS earn the 7-0 final.
The Athenas will be back in action tomorrow with a road match at Occidental.
