Ananya Sriniketh, and
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne all won in both singles and doubles, and
Rebecca Kong earned a 16-14 third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to finish off the shutout, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Occidental on Saturday.
With the win, CMS now stands at 19-1 overall, with 19 wins in a row since an opening-day defeat to Division I UC Riverside, while Occidental falls to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Sriniketh and Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne started off the match with a dominant 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, and
Georgia Garrett and
Shifali Dinesh secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 3. Baroudi and
Bell Zhou finished the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 2.
Baroudi was the first to finish her singles match, as she dominated at No. 3 for a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Sriniketh was close behind at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory to make the score 3-0.
Celestina Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne earned the clinch at No. 4 with the same 6-0, 6-2 score.
Macy Garwood extended the lead to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6, and the final two matches went three sets.
Rachel Garton came back after dropping the first set for a 4-6, 6-1, 10-1 win at No. 5, and Kong responded after dropping her first set at No. 1. to Greta Nagy 6-2, taking the second set 6-2.
The pro-set tiebreaker for the third set went way past the usual 10 points, with Kong finally prevailing with a 16-14 win to make the final score 7-0.
CMS will be back in action next weekend for its final two regular season matches, taking on Whittier on the road on Friday, and returning home to face Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 6 p.m. in a battle for the regular season title.
