CLAREMONT, Calif. - Head coach
Keilee Bessho and assistant coach
Zane Mularski earned the SCIAC Women's Golf Coaching Staff of the Year Award, and five members of the Athenas captured all-league honors, the SCIAC office announced today.
Christine Yu,
Esther Lee and
Alisa Ching were first-team All-SCIAC honorees after finishing in the top eight at the SCIAC Championships, helping CMS to the team title, with Yu tying for individual medalist honors.
Ella Chiu and
Precilla Tea earned second-team all-league honors, as all five Athenas competing in the league championships finished in the top 16. Lee earned All-SCIAC honors for the fourth time in her career, including the Athlete of the Year Award in 2023.
Bessho and Mularski helped guide the Athenas to the SCIAC Championship and a top-10 national ranking, despite losing one of its key All-SCIAC returners to injury (
Jessie Kong). Bessho is in her second season as the head coach of the CMS program, after previously serving as an assistant coach for two, and led CMS to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships last year in her debut season as the head coach, with Mularski as her assistant. She was also named the national Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022-23 by the Women's Golf Coaches Association.
CMS earned the SCIAC title with a -5 performance on the final day, turning a one-shot lead into an 11-shot margin of victory, earning the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. CMS will serve as the host of the championships, which will be held from May 19-22 at the Desert Willow Golf Course in Palm Desert.
