Lee to Zhu For 3-2 - Stags Soccer Comes Back Late to Defeat UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Sean Lee scored twice and then fed Daniel Zhu for the game-winner with 2:20 left in regulation as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team rallied from a late 2-1 deficit to take a 3-2 win at UC Santa Cruz in its 2026 season opener.

CMS trailed 2-1 before Lee converted his second goal with 12:20 remaining to tie the score 2-2, converting in the center of the box off a cross from Collin Ross.

In the 88th minute, CMS broke up the right side of the field, and Samir Bouhamama sent Lee inside the box with a long through ball from the outside of his foot. Lee then slipped a low pass through the goalmouth, where Zhu was the first one to it, converting a sliding shot for his first collegiate tally.

Lee opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he headed in a cross from James Gomez at the top of the six-yard box. The Banana Slugs answered eight minutes later, and then went ahead with 32 minutes to play, but were unable to protect the lead.

The Banana Slugs finished with a narrow 15-12 edge in shot attempts on the day. Axel Jimenez had four saves in goal in his collegiate debut for the Stags to get the win.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it hosts No. 2 Trinity (Texas) in its first-ever game at Nakasone Field, the program's new home facility.
