THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -
Daniel Zhu scored a pair of goals 3:28 apart in the second half, both assisted by
Sean Lee, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team overcame a 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 win at Cal Lutheran on Saturday evening.
With the win, CMS moves to 4-2-1 on the year and 1-1 in the SCIAC, while Cal Lutheran slips to 2-3-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Cal Lutheran scored 30 seconds into the second half to take a 1-0 lead, but the Stags answered as
Sean Lee got a long ball along the left edge of the box. He then volleyed a pass backwards over his head into the middle of the penalty area with the goalkeeper drawn out, and Zhu got on the back end and volleyed it out of the air and into the net to knot the game up at 1-1 at the 59:13 mark.
Just over three minutes later, the duo connected again, this time in a more conventional manner, as Lee sent a through ball into a gap between the center backs to put Zhu in one on one with the goalkeeper. Zhu one-timed the shot into the net to give the Stags their first lead of the game at the 62:41 mark.
Axel Jimenez had one save for the Stags to get the win in goal, while Anthony Sound had four saves for the Kingsmen.
CMS will be back in action on Wednedsday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer in a Sixth Street Rivalry game that will also feature the official grand opening ceremony for the program's new stadium, Nakasone Field.
