CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Noah Macapulay caught nine passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71-yarder in the first quarter to open the scoring, but George Fox was able to hold off the Stags in the second half and earn a 42-25 win at Rogan Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
George Fox moves to 3-0 on the season with the win, while CMS slips to 1-1 with the defeat, as it gets ready to open SCIAC play at Pomona-Pitzer next Saturday.
Macapulay pulled in a 71-yarder from
Robert Litscher to put CMS ahead 6-0, although a running attempt failed for a two-point conversion after the snap was mishandled.
Sean Lee opened the second quarter with a 38-yard field goal to put CMS up 9-7, after
Quintin Craig blocked a punt to set the Stags up on the 14-yard line, and
Wilson Schwartz caught a 13-yard pass from Litscher to put the Stags up 17-14 with 12 minutes left in the half, after
Cooper Nixon ran the conversion in for two.
The Bruins took a 21-17 lead into the break and went ahead 28-17 after three, before
Noah Macapulay caught his second touchdown pass of the day with 10:56 left.
Jake Son rushed the ball in for two to make the score 28-25, and the Stags nearly had a key stop late when George Fox hit the upright with a field goal.
However, a running into the kicker penalty gave the Bruins a first down, and they were able to cash in with a touchdown to go ahead 35-25 with 5:02 left, before sealing the game with 2:32 to go with another touchdown off a CMS turnover.
Litscher finished with 311 yards on 21-34 passing for the Stags, while
Jaden Rattay added four catches for 79 yards.
George Kruger led the defensive effort with nine tackles and a forced fumble, while
Drew Van Komen had eight tackles, and
Xzavier Sablan had seven tackles and an interception.
Grady Johnson added seven tackles, three for losses, including a sack.
CMS will look to win back the Sixth Street Trophy at Pomona-Pitzer next Saturday at 7 p.m.
