CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Sean Lee scored during a scramble off a corner in the 57th minute from
Collin Ross as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn a 1-1 tie with Redlands on Saturday evening at Nakasone Field.
The tie moves CMS to 4-2-3 on the season, and 1-1-2 in the SCIAC, while Redlands moves to 5-1-3 overall and 2-0-1 in league play.
The tying goal was set up off a
Leica Yasukawa corner kick. Redlands won the initial header, but the ball came loose inside the six-yard box. Ross was able to get a touch on it in traffic, and it fell to Lee in front of the goal, and he was able to slot it home for his third goal of the season.
CMS finished with a 13-8 edge in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, out-shooting the Bulldogs 7-3 in the second half.
Daniel Zhu had a team-high four shots, while Ross added three shots on goal.
Axel Jimenez tallied five saves for the Stags, including a two saves early in the 46th and 49th minute for CMS.
Thomas Lyden gave Redlands a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute after being set up by Taylor Bell down the right line of the field. Landon Azavedo led the Bulldogs with a team-high four shots, three on goal and Jaden Nisperos recorded a game-high seven saves for Redlands.
Ross had a shot on goal in the 79th minute for the Stags but it was saved by Nisperos.
Roby Hooper had a final chance at the game-winner for the Stags but the ball went just wide of the left post.
CMS picked up a result for the fifth time this season when it trailed in the second half. The Stags have come back to defeat UC Santa Cruz 3-2 and Cal Lutheran 2-1 after being behind in the second half, and also come back for ties with Wheaton (2-2), Pomona-Pitzer (1-1) and Redlands (1-1).
The Stags will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Chapman for a 4 p.m. contest.
