Chapman Women's Soccer Comes Back Late to Defeat Athenas 2-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jordan Yates put Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer ahead 1-0 early in the second half, but Chapman came back with two goals in the final 14 minutes to take a 2-1 win over the Athenas on Wednesday evening at Nakasone Field.

With the loss, CMS slips to 5-3-2 on the year and 2-2-1 in the SCIAC, while the Panthers improve to 4-3-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Yates had her second goal of the season with 37:20 left when she converted off a pass from Flora Glantz from the top of the 18-yard box. Chapman responded on a counter with 13:27 to go when Karys McKinney found the upper-left corner from a sharp angle on the right edge of the box.

With just under four minutes left, Chapman earned a corner kick and CMS goalie Andra Marinescu came off her line to punch the ball out of air. Even before the ball hit the ground, York volleyed it out of the air and into the net from 15 yards out to give the Panthers the win.
