SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team had six of the top 20 finishers as it came in second place of 14 teams at the Coyote Challenge, hosted by CSU San Bernardino on Saturday morning. 

Cal Poly Pomona finished in first place with 27 points, while CMS and CSU Monterey Bay each had 58, with the Athenas winning the tiebreaker. Concordia Irvine had 113 points in fourth, with CSU San Marcos in fifth, UNLV in sixth and Azusa Pacific in seventh. 

First-year Isla Duncan finished in the top 10 out of 183 competitors in eighth place with a time of 21:32.3, which ranks 20th in CMS history.

The Athenas then had four in a row finish from 11th-14th, with Jie Yi Denise Chen in 11th (21:41.2), Brannan Rosenfeld in 12th (21:42.9), Sienna Faidi in 13th in 21:44.3, and Kylie Brunelli in 14th in 21:45.7. Talia Su-Yin Green was in 18th place as well in 21:48.9. 

Olivia Backholm was in 29th place for the Athenas, with Revere Schmidt in 32nd. First-years Nevis Murphy, Julieta Ochoa and Charlotte Preuss finished in succession in 52nd-54th place in their collegiate debuts. 

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it travels to UC Riverside Invitational.
