On Tuesday, CMS Volleyball (16-5, 7-3 SCIAC) cruised past
Caltech (1-14, 0-9 SCIAC) in an at home 3-0 victory (25-9, 25-17,
25-8).
In the first set, CMS held Caltech to a negative hitting
percentage and had seven hills. With each set the Athenas
improved their attack and in both the second and third set the
Athenas tallied 11 hits. CMS also had a .375 hitting
percentage in the final set.
As a team, CMS came away with 29 kills and 41 digs, compared to
Caltech's 14 and 33 respectively. Caltech's Ying
Ying Tran had a match high of 13 digs.
The Athenas' attach was led by Megan Levonian (SO, Santa
Cruz), who had a hitting percentage of .545 and seven kills, and
Kelly Halamek (SO, Palo Alto), who had a team high of ten
kills.
The defense was strong all game as well. Halamek recorded
a team high with eight digs, followed by Hilary Bruegl (FR,
Pasadena) and Stephanie Bethune (SO, Stockton), with seven digs
each.
The Athenas next travel to Texas to play in the Trinity
Tournament. CMS will play New York University (25-3) and Trinity
University (18-9) on Friday and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
(16-7) and Texas-Dallas (20-2) on Saturday.
