CMS Women's Volleyball (11-4, 4-2 in SCIAC) defeated the
Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (9-6, 3-3 in SCIAC) on Tuesday evening three
sets to one (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17). Both teams were 3-2
in SCIAC play before the match and the Athena victory allowed CMS
to move ahead of Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC standings.
After narrowly losing the first set, the Athenas knew they had
to pick up their game in order to come out on top. CMS came
out strong in the second set, hitting .317 with 16 kills. With each
set the Athenas improved their play and were able to decisively
silence the Sagehens in the fourth and final set, in which CMS hit
.312 with 16 kills. Emily
Hudson (JR, South Pasadena) accumulated 22 kills, the most on
either team. Bennett
Jones (FR, Monte Sereno) and Leanne
Ringquist (SR, Ben Lomond) had three block assists each and
Ringquist had the teams only solo block. Kendra Huff
(SR, Downey) led the defense with 22 digs, which was tied for the
most on the court with Heidi Leonard of Pomona-Pitzer. Shalynn
Ho (SO, Mililani, HI) had 19 digs, helping the Athenas to
accumulate a total of 99 digs in the match.
The Athenas will play Whittier on Friday, October 8th
at Whittier at 7:30 PM. In the last matchup between these
teams earlier this season, CMS defeated the Poets in three straight
sets.
