Box Score The CMS Athenas improved their record to 5-0 with a three game
sweep of the Chapman University Panthers Tuesday night in Orange,
CA. Despite missing eight serves in the first two sets, the CMS
defense held the Panthers at bay and helped the team lodge a pair
of narrow 25-23 wins. In the third set, CMS limited its service
errors to just one and hit .310 en route to a decisive 25-15
victory. Freshman newcomer, Bennett Jones paced the team offensively from the
middle with 10 kills on 18 attempts. She was joined by veteran
right side hitter, Angela Estrella-Lemus (Sr., Gilroy, CA) who finished
with 8 kills to lead the CMS attack. Outside hitters, Emily Hudson (Jr., South Pasadena, CA), Allie
Macy (Sr., Walnut, CA) and Kendra Huff (Sr., Downey, CA) combined for an
additional 18 kills. Sophomore setter, Taylor Jones was outstanding, totalling 35 assists and
18 digs in the effort.
The Athenas will continue non-conference play this weekend as
they travel to Cal Lutheran University for the Cal-Lu-Fornia
Lutheran Invitational. Play begins Friday evening at 5:00 as CMS
takes on LeTourneau University before facing regional opponent,
George Fox University at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, the Athenas will
meet Whitman College (1:00 pm) and Willamette University (5:00
pm).
