CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team had 40 kills and committed only four errors as it captured a straight-set win over Caltech on Tuesday evening at Roberts Pavilion.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-14, 25-10 as the Athenas controlled the match throughout. With the win, CMS moves to 9-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play, while Caltech slips to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC.
Shae Delany led a balanced offense with nine kills, while
Brooke McKee and
Brenna Bell each added eight. The Athenas used four different setters, with
Georgia McGovern recording 13 in the first set before yielding to junior
Shelby McIlroy, sophomore
Samantha Riter and first-year
Hayden Lin. McIlroy tallied 10 assists, Riter had seven and Lin chipped in with three.
Ari Clarkson put down kills on three of her four swings for CMS, while
Kelsey Polhemus and
Anna Ryan combined on three consecutive blocks in the second set.
Dede Carranza had 18 digs for the Athenas to lead the back row, while McKee had six service aces to go with her eight kills.
Lauren Parker had five kills in eight attempts, and
Solvej Eversoll contributed three blocks in the third set.
CMS will be back in action on Friday night when it travels to Whittier, before returning home to face Chapman on Saturday at 4 p.m.
