With the win, CMS stays alone in first place in the SCIAC at 9-1, while improving to 15-4 overall. Whittier, which came into the day just two games behind CMS in fourth place, slips to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the SCIAC.

Dede Carranza had 17 digs, and tallied six service aces of the 13 that CMS recorded as a team. McKee also had three, and Georgia McGovern had three to go along with 33 assists. Ashlee Sento started and led CMS with 18 digs, while adding eight kills.

CMS opened up the first set with a 4-0 run that turned a 10-7 lead into a 14-7 advantage, with McKee tallying a pair of kills and McGovern recording an ace. Sento then had four kills during a 6-0 run that put CMS ahead 24-9, before Dani Beder finished off the set with a kill for a 25-12 win.

The second set was tight for the first half, before CMS used a 6-0 run to stretch a 12-11 lead out to 18-11, with Carranza tallying two aces during the spurt, which ended with a block from Beder and Brenna Bell. Solvej Eversoll then had two kills in a 3-0 run to close out the set, sandwiched around a kill from Bell, as the Athenas took it 25-17.

Whittier jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set, but McKee had a kill and two aces in a 6-0 run that gave the Athenas a 6-5 lead. Carranza then had three aces in a 7-0 run that put CMS up 13-7, before the Poets were able to come back and tie it 15-15.

McKee then had two straight kills to put CSM ahead to stay, and McGovern had two straight aces to put CMS ahead 20-16. McKee had two kills in a row, and after an exchange of points on a Poet kill and a service error, made it 23-17, McKee finished off the match with two more kills to give her 14 kills on the night.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it heads to Chapman for a road contest, before being back at home on Tuesday to take on Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
