CMS Volleyball Earns Quick Sweep of Redlands to Clinch Share of Regular Season Title

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Dani Beder had kills on her first 11 attacks before finishing 12-for-17, and Georgia McGovern had 36 assists and recorded her 200th career ace, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Redlands on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Pavilion.

With the win, CMS improves to 19-4 overall and 13-1 in SCIAC and clinches at least a share of the regular season league title with two matches to play. A win in either (against Pomona-Pitzer or Occidental) would give the Athenas the regular season title outright at the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament.

CMS hit .383 as a team in the match, including .485 in the first set and .444 in the second on its way to a 25-16, 25-11, 25-11 win.

McGovern moved to the top of the CMS career ace list with her 197th earlier in the week, and reached the 200-ace plateau in the second set before recording two more to move up to 202. Dede Carranza led the defensive effort with 17 digs, improving to 2037 in her career, needing 84 to tie the program record, one day after becoming the second player to reach 2000 in CMS history in yesterday's win over La Verne.

Brooke McKee added 10 kills in 16 attempts for CMS, while Shae Delany had seven kills in 16 attempts. Anna Ryan and Ari Clarkson added three kills apiece as well.

CMS will cross the street to face Pomona-Pitzer on Friday before concluding the regular season at home against Occidental on Saturday.
