CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Katie Resendiz had 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, but the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team fell to Trinity (Texas) 82-61 on Sunday at Roberts Pavilion.
With the loss, CMS slips to 2-3 on the season, while Trinity improves to 3-1 after winning all three games on its Southern California trip this weekend, defeating Whittier on Friday and Redlands on Saturday.
Renee Chong finished with a team-high 19 points and
Ava Grey was also in double figures for the Athenas with 12. Josie Napoli had 25 points for the Tigers to lead all scorers, while Kylie Minter added 16, and Elanie King had eight blocks defensively.
CMS trailed by nine at the break (41-32), and Resendiz opened the second half with a lay-up on the fast break to close it to seven, but Napoli hit a three-pointer to make it 51-36 and the Tigers were able to keep the lead in double figures the rest of the way.
The Athenas will be back in action when they co-host the David Wells Classic this weekend, taking on Clark at Roberts Pavilion on Friday at Roberts Pavilion before traveling across the street to face Carleton at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
