CMS Men's Soccer Rolls to 6-0 Win over Bethesda

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year forward Collin Ross scored twice, and veterans Gray Mollenkamp, Cooper Danielson, Liam Hall and Ben Bacdayan added first-half goals as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team earned a 6-0 win over Bethesda University of California on Saturday evening at Pritzlaff Field.

With the win, CMS moves to 1-0-1 on the year after opening with a tie against Luther yesterday.

The Stags wasted little time in getting all the offensive output they would need on the day, as Gray Mollenkamp scored just 2:34 into the contest. Bo Gardner created the play with a crossing pass inside the box, and Mollenkamp was able to settle on the far side and tuck a shot inside the left post.

Ross made it a 2-0 lead for CMS at the 23:41 mark when he was able to get to his own rebound after his initial shot was saved by Bethesda goalkeeper Gabriel Vieiea. Just 2:10 later, CMS extended its lead to 3-0 after Cooper Danielson got on the back end of a pass from Nico Monsalve

Monsalve added his second straight assist at the 33:54 mark when his through ball found Hall, who tucked a shot inside the left post. Bacdayan capped off the half with a penalty kick goal with 5:06 left in the opening stanza to make it 5-0.

Ross then capped off the scoring just 1:51 into the second half with his second of the game, scoring off a pass from Mollenkamp. Three CMS goalies combined on the shutout, with Daniel Kotkosky getting the start and making one save to get the win, and Nate Kim (39 minutes) and Lucius Ng (6 minutes) playing the second half.

CMS finished with a 25-2 edge in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. The Stags will next be in action when they travel to Minnesota next weekend for a neutral site game with Mary Hardin-Baylor and a road game against St. Olaf.
