WHITTIER, Calif. - Breckon Robirds had eight saves in goal for the Whittier men's soccer team as the Poets were able to defend their home field with a 2-0 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday evening.
The loss was just the second of the season for CMS, which slips to 6-2-1 overall and 2-2 in league play. Whittier moves its record to 2-2 in the SCIAC, as well as 4-2-2 overall.
Whittier took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, and the Stags had their best chance to equalize in the 78th minute, when
John Laidlaw and
Shaan Malik forced saves from Robirds just five seconds apart. Just three minutes later, the Poets were able to tack on an insurance goal with 9:50 left.
Miles Demarest had five saves for the Stags in the defeat. Laidlaw led CMS with three shots, two of which were on target, while
Collin Ross had to shots saved as well.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer for a 7 p.m. contest.
