EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The tenth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team earned a quick 25-19, 25-16, 25-12 win over Occidental on Saturday to complete its opening weekend of SCIAC play with a 2-0 record.
Lauren Parker had eight kills in 13 attempts for a .615 hitting percentage, while
Shae Delany led CMS with 11 kills.
Georgia McGovern had 29 assists in three sets, while
Dede Carranza tallied 12 digs.
Occidental battled through the first set, keeping it close the whole way. The Tigers led 14-12 at one point, and were still within 19-18 before a 5-0 CMS run gave the Athenas control, with Delany recording three kills in a row to make it 23-18. After an Occidental error, the Tigers fought off a set point, but Parker finished off the set with a kill.
CMS opened up a lead earlier in the second set, pulling ahead 10-4 on an
Ashlee Sento kill. Occidental came back to tie it 11-11, but CMS scored the next four points, starting with kills from
Solvej Eversoll and Parker. Eversoll finished off the set for a 25-16 win to make it a 2-0 match and the Athenas controlled the third set 25-12 for the sweep.
CMS will be back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Caltech for a 7 p.m. match at Roberts Pavilion.
