Athenas Soccer Takes 4-2 Road Win Over Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. - Cate Lewison scored off a rebound in the 78th minute to break a 2-2 tie and give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team a comeback 4-2 win over Chapman on Wednesday afternoon at Chapman Stadium.

With the win, the Athenas move to 8-2-1 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC, while Chapman slips to 3-4-3 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.

CMS led 1-0 at the half on a goal in the 42nd minute from Robyn Dizon, the first of her career, which came off a pass from Elsie Lindeman with 3:19 left in the half. However, the Panthers scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the second half to take a 2-1 lead with 32:45 left on a penalty kick.

CMS got the equalizer just over six minutes later, though, as Jordan Yates tallied her eighth goal of the season off a pass from Ava Allen knotting the score up at 2-2 at the 63:39 mark.

The Athenas would move back in front with 12:17 to go as Flora Glantz had a shot saved, but the rebound fell to Lewison, who was able to slot it home to put CMS back in front. Preslie Lampitt added an insurance goal with 4:28 to go off a pass from Alyssa Fang

CMS held a narrow 16-13 edge in shots for the game, and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Sadie Brown had four saves to get the win in goal.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to La Verne for an 11 a.m. contest.
