CLAREMONT, Calif. - Maximilian Hartbaum scored with 5:11 remaining to break a 1-1 tie and help give the undefeated Stanton men's soccer team a 3-1 non-league win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday evening at Pritzlaff Field.
With the win, Stanton moves to 8-0-2 on the season, including eight wins in a row since opening the year with two straight ties. CMS falls to 3-7-5 with the loss.
Stanton took an early lead on a penalty kick in the third minute, before
Ben Bacdayan equalized with 9:16 to go in the half off of assists from
Clayton Thomas and
Kevin Xia. It was Bacdayan's second straight game with a goal, after also scoring in the second half of a 3-3 tie with Occidental on Saturday.
Bacdayan had a bid for a second goal in the second half, but had his attempt saved in the 73rd minute with a chance to put CMS in front. Hartbaum then broke the tie in the 85th minute, and Isiah Hamelin added another with 44 seconds left to seal it.
Stanton finished with a 10-7 edge in shots and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
Lucius Ng had four saves in his first collegiate start.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday night for a Sixth Street Rivalry game at home against Pomona-Pitzer.
