ROME, Ga. -
Rebecca Kong will compete for the ITA Cup championship in both singles and doubles (along with
Lindsay Eisenman) after winning semifinals in both brackets on Saturday at the Rome Tennis Center.
Kong earned a 6-3, 7-6 win in singles over Ika Kanumuru, taking the second-set tiebreaker 7-5 to move on to the finals. She will face the top seed, Matia Cristiani of Babson, who defeated
Ananya Sriniketh of the Athenas in the other semifinal, ending a dramatic run for the CMS first-year standout.
Kong then joined with Eisenman to take a 7-5, 6-2 win over Iris Berman and Emily Katrovitz of Emory in the doubles semifinal. They will move on to face Lia Melvin and Jay Xiao of Johns Hopkins, who came back to defeat Occidental's Elina Shalaev and Greta Nagy of Occidental, to prevent an All-SCIAC final.
Kong will try to win the doubles championship this year, after reaching the semifinals of the NCAA doubles championship with
Alisha Chulani last year, which was won by Cristiani and Olivia Soffer of Babson. Eisenman won the NCAA singles championship last year and will look to add a national doubles crown to her resume in the finals tomorrow.
The singles championship will get underway at 8 a.m. local time (5 a.m. Pacific) with the doubles taking place at 11 a.m.
