CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Thomas Walker had four goals, and
Nick Kennedy,
Donovan Davidson and
Gavin Netherton each had three, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team cruised to its 12th straight win with a 19-8 victory over Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning at Axelrood Pool.
With the win, CMS now stands at 16-4 on the year and 7-0 in the SCIAC, moving into a tie for first place with Pomona-Pitzer, who the Stags face on Wednesday night. Cal Lutheran slips to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Netherton added four assists for a team-high seven points, while
Jeffrey Koretz had two goals and drew a team-high five exclusions.
Jake Taylor had 12 saves in goal for the Stags, while
Weston Hartel led CMS with four steals.
Kennedy had his hat trick in he first 4:12 of the contest, while Netherton added two goals, in a game-opening 5-0 stretch. Cal Lutheran closed to within 6-3, but Walker finished off the first quarter with a goal to make it 7-3.
Christopher Petrossian finished off the first half with a goal to give CMS a 10-4 lead at the half, and Davidson scored twice in the third to help the Stags salt it away.
CMS will face Pomona-Pitzer on the road on Wednesday in a game that will likely determine the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament next month.
