Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Athenas Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with Cal Lutheran

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Ava Allen had a potential game-winner cleared off the line with seven seconds left in regulation as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team settled for a 0-0 tie with Cal Lutheran on Saturday evening at Pritzlaff Field.

CMS extends its unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2) with the tie and moves to 12-2-3 on the year, and 7-2-2 in conference. Cal Lutheran remains two points ahead of the Athenas at 8-2-1 in league play.

Allen nearly made something out of nothing in the closing seconds as she dribbled outside the right edge of the penalty area, and sent a sharp cross that carried over the head of Cal Lutheran goalkeeper Kelsey Slaugh and appeared destined to tuck inside the far post. However, Tessa French crashed down from the weak side and headed the ball away.

CMS had another chance with the final seconds ticking off the clock, as the rebound came to Preslie Lampitt, but her shot attempt was saved by Slaugh.

The Athenas finished with a 12-8 edge in shots, including 7-4 in the second half. Sena Howell had a pair of bids for the go-ahead goal whistle wide of the right post. Sadie Brown had eight saves to pick up her eighth shutout of the season.

CMS will have a week off before closing out the regular season with a home game against Caltech next Saturday at 11 a.m.
