CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Collin Ross had a late goal to get the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team within one, but Redlands was able to fight off the Stags the rest of the way and take a 2-1 win on Wednesday evening in the home finale for the Stags at Pritzlaff Field.
Anders Beckton scored both goals for Redlands, which improves to 7-6-4 overall and 5-3-3 in the SCIAC with the win. CMS slips to 4-9-6 overall and 3-4-4 in the SCIAC with the loss.
Beckton scored his first goal in the 17th minute and then seemed to salt the game away with his second goal with 14:21 left. However, Ross was able to tuck a low shot inside the left post with 9:48 remaining to close the gap to 2-1.
Penn Kaplan had a header two minutes later saved by Redlands goalie Brady Bachman, and in the final minute, Bachman came off his line to deny a potentially dangerous shot attempt from
John Laidlaw at the top of the 18-yard box.
Bachman finished with four second-half saves for Redlands, while
Miles Demarest had seven saves for the Stags.
CMS will be back in action when it closes out the regular season with a road game at Chapman on Saturday at 1 p.m.
