CLAREMONT, Calif. - Julia Ryan had three goals and 23 draw controls as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team opened the 2025 season with a 20-6 win over Cal Lutheran on Wednesday evening at Zinda Field.

A total of 15 players scored goals for the Athenas, with Hannah Conte adding two, as well as first-years Kaia Scott and Kate Larson in their collegiate debuts.

It took the Athenas a few minutes to get going, as Grace Minturn opened the scoring at the 10:25 mark of the first quarter, before the Regals tied it 1-1 with 8:59 left. But CMS then rattled off 12 goals in a row to pull ahead 13-1 and take control.

The first nine goals were all scored by different players, as Amelia Ulmer gave the Athenas the lead for good, and Larson, Ryan and Scott followed with the next three. Maggie Griffis made the score 6-1, and Conte, Taylor Daetz and Ava Goldson each scored to make the score 9-1 after the first quarter.

Ryan opened the second quarter with her second goal, and Sarah Press, Summer Mastik and Riley Hack capped off the 12-0 run, giving CMS 12 different goal scorers as it took a 13-3 lead into the half.

Lily Bishop, Natalie Teare and Kelsey Heffernan added goals in the second half for CMS, which finished the game with a 47-11 edge in shots.

CMS will be back in action when it faces Occidental next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
