CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Josephine Jett ran a 14.30 in the 100-meter hurdles to set a new Claremont-Mudd-Scripps record as the Athena track and field team took first out of five teams at the first SCIAC Quad Cup on Saturday at the Burns Track Complex.
Jett set a new PR by just over a half-second, passing her old best mark of 14.81 set last year. Her time was .06 ahead of the old program record, which was set by Rose Lewis in 2013.
Jett also ran a 24.86 in the 200 meters to finish first, which ranks second all-time at CMS behind national champion Tyra Abraham, and added a win the 100-meter dash as well, finishing in 12.10 seconds.
CMS finished with 259 points, easily out-distance Pomona-Pitzer in second with 132, while Cal Lutheran was third with 107.66.
In addition to Jett's record-breaking day, CMS also swept the four throwing events, with four different Athenas finishing first.
Antonia Hekster was in first in the hammer with a throw of 152'5",
Katelyn Sewell won the discus with a throw of 119'5",
Sophia Laudi took first in the javelin with a throw of 127'1" and
Renn Corley was the winner in the shot put with a distance of 31'2.5".
CMS totaled 12 event wins in all, with
Rosemary McManus taking first in the 800 with a time of 2:20.38, followed by
Mia Voce and
Sally Gaskell in second and third.
Sara Wexler was the first-place finisher in the 5000 with a time of 18:01.74, and
Revere Schmidt won the steeplechase in 11:25.88, followed by
Olivia Backholm and
Emily Kendrick.
Simone Rogers took first in the high jump at 5'3", just three-quarters of an inch shy of moving into the all-time top-10 at CMS, while
Georgia Rogers was second at 5'1".
Madeline Seifert was first in the pole vault at 11'4.5".
CMS will be back in action at the Occidental Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic next Saturday.
