LA CROSSE, Wis. -
Josephine Jett broke her own program record in the 100 hurdles with a 13.68 to finish second, and
Elle Marsyla added a second-place finish in the 5000 meters to her national title in the 10000 on Thursday, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team finished sixth at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday.
Jett also added another first-team All-America performance in the 100-meter dash, earning the last spot on the podium by one-thousandth of a second, just 40 minutes after finishing in second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Riley Capuano picked up second-team All-America honors in the 1500 meters with a ninth-place finish, while
Sophia Laudi was second-team All-America in the javelin.
Marsyla had a dramatic win the for the national title in the 10000 meters on Thursday, coming back from way behind on the last lap to overtake Ainara Sainz De Rozas of Concordia (Wis.) on the closing stretch to win by six-tenths of a second. In that race, De Rozas led almost the whole way, with Marsyla staying right on her heels for the majority of it.
This time around, De Rozas surged in front and opened up a large gap right from the beginning. Marsyla pulled ahead from the rest of the field to take command of second, but De Rozas kept up her pace, and won by 15 seconds, as Marsyla added a silver to her gold on opening day.
Jett's 13.68 broke her own CMS record which she has set numerous times. The old mark was 14.36, set by Rose Lewis in 2013, which she first broke at the start of last year. Her 13.78 at the SCIAC Championships tied a conference record which had held since 1981, which she trimmed by another tenth at nationals. Aryianna Garceau of UMass Boston won for the second year in a row, capping off her senior season.
Jett then ran an 11.884 in the 100-meter dash, just edging out Kamiyah Wooten of North Carolina Wesleyan in 11.885 to earn first-team All-America honors a second time.
Wisconsin-La Crosse won the team title with 53 points, followed by WashU with 42 and Johns Hopkins with 38. Calvin finished with 36, and Centre had 34, with CMS coming in sixth with 27, to edge out Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Williams with 25 apiece.
CMS will look to earn another top 10 finish next year, as Jett will come in as one of the top contenders for the national title in the hurdles, while Laudi will also be back to lead the throwers and second-team All-America (10000 meters)
Hope Dragseth will be back to pace the distance runners. Marsyla, Capuano and pole vaulter
Madeline Seifert will all graduate off this year's NCAA contingent.
