ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Josephine Jett ran an 8.72 in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Championships, coming in ninth place out of 20 competitors in the prelims.

Jett ran in the third and final heat and came in third behind Laura Suppa of Ithaca and JoJo Tyynismaa of Wartburg. Her 8.72 left her just one-hundredth of a second short of qualifying for tomorrow's finals in her first NCAA appearance.

By finishing in the top 16, Jett earns second-team All-America honors for her performance. Earlier this season, she set a CMS record in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.30, surpassing the old program record by .06.

Meanwhile, the throwers were in action during outdoor season at the Redlands Invitational. Antonia Hekster set a new PR In the hammer throw with a distance of 51.32 meters (168'4"), which placed her second in the meet behind Emily Fink of Division I Army, and is the top throw in NCAA Division III so far this season by nearly seven feet. Sophia Laudi was second in the javelin with a throw of 123'10".

The Athenas will return to full competition next weekend at the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State.
