CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Grace Minturn and
Amelia Ulmer each had five goals and an assist as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team got its offense back on track in a 23-8 win over George Fox on Wednesday evening at Zinda Field.
With the win, CMS moves to 5-5 on the year, while George Fox slips to 4-4.
The Athenas were stymied on Monday night in a home loss to Williams, scoring just two goals as the Eph goalies combined for 14 saves. It took CMS 53 seconds to score twice against the Bruins, as
Kate Larson and
Lily Bishop opened up with tallies.
CMS ended up starting on a 6-0 run, as Ulmer scored off a Larson feed, and then Larson, Minturn and
Taylor Daetz rattled off unassisted tallies in succession. George Fox scored twice to cut it to 6-2, but
Kaia Scott and Ulmer answered those goals, and Minturn ended the first quarter with a goal with 37 seconds left to make it 9-3 after the opening session.
Minturn started off the second quarter with another goal to finish off her har trick, and after Daetz scored her second, Ulmer had back-to-back goals to give her a hat trick with 11:04 left in the half and make the score 13-3.
Avery Monahan,
Hannah Conte and
Maggie Griffis added second-quarter goals, while
Stella Hansot (two) and
Julia Ryan (one) added second-half tallies. Larson closed out the scoring with 4:43 left to finish off her hat trick.
Ava Goldson had four assists for the Athenas, while Ryan had 24 draw controls to continue to lead the nation in that category. Daetz and
Jessica Sloan-Cooper each had two caused turnovers and
Lyla Johnston had five saves.
CMS will be back in action when it hosts Redlands on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
