REDLANDS, Calif. -
Sophia Laudi set a new program record in the javelin with a throw of 132'9" (40.48) to help lead the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team to a dominant performance in taking first place at the second SCIAC Quad Cup on Saturday.
CMS finished with 214.50 points at the four-team event, well ahead of Chapman in second place with 150, Redlands in third with 135.50, and Pomona-Pitzer fourth with 76.
Laudi's throw broke the old school record by 3 feet, 7 inches (129'2"), which was set by Mary Moore in 2009.
Antonia Hekster also moved up one spot into fifth all-time at CMS with a first-place finish in the hammer throw with a 171'3", which added just under three feet to her old personal best.
On the track,
Josephine Jett continued her standout sophomore season by taking first in three events on the day. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.35, just off her CMS record of 14.30, and was first in the 100-meter dash in 11.93, just .01 off her personal best set last week. She then capped off her day with a 24.77 in the 200 meters, setting a new PR by .09, which ranks second in CMS history.
Revere Schmidt and
Olivia Backholm were 1-2 in the steeplechase, with Schmidt finishing in 11:17.55 and Backholm less than two seconds behind in 11:19.14.
Jie Yi Denise Chen and
Hope Dragseth were 1-2 in the 5000, separated by just .18 (18:08.17 to 18:08.35).
Madeline Seifert was the first-place finisher in the pole vault with a top clearance of 3.5 meters (11'5.75").
Simone Rogers matched her PR in the high jump (5'3") to take first place, with
Gabriela Henderson second at 5'1".
Mia Voce was second in the 800 in 2:20.98, with
Chloe Gudas taking third just under a half-second behind in 2:21.42.
Shriya Velichala was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.93, with
Kaitlyn Creighton third.
In addition to the SCIAC Quad Cup,
Angie Gushue was also in action in Boston at the Tufts Snowflake Classic, where she ran in the 1500 meters, finishing fourth with a 4:55.04.
CMS will be back in action next week when it travels to the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego.
