CMS Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Puget Sound with 3-2 Win

AZUSA, Calif. - Alex Henderson drove home the go-ahead run with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team a 3-2 win over Puget Sound in the series finale on Sunday at Cougar Stadium.

With the win, CMS moves to 10-3 on the season after taking all four games over the weekend from the Loggers, who fall to 7-6 on the season. The first three games were all lopsided wins, a 7-1 win on Friday and two 10-0 wins on Saturday, but the Sunday game required winning a tight one in the late innings.

Jack Potter got CMS on the board with an RBI single in the third, scoring Keegan Cabrera, who led off with a single and moved up a base on a sacrifice from Max Pemberton

The Loggers tied it in the top of the sixth, but Henderson answered in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly. Andrew Mazzone walked, and moved to second on a single from Dillon Martin. A single from Bryce Didrickson loaded the bases, and Henders was able to drive a ball to left field to plate Mazzone.

Once again, Puget Sound tied it in the eighth, and once again Henderson answered in the bottom half. Martin and Didrickson again had back-to-back singles, and Henderson was able to bring home Martin with an RBI double.

Colin McNiven came on to close in the ninth, and got one strikeout, retiring the final batter on a fly ball to left. Kody Perry started and threw one inning, striking out three and allowing one hit. Hamilton Finefrock came on in relief and threw four innings, striking out four and allowing one hit. Hudson Hilen got a strikeout to end the top of the eighth and earned the win after the Stags took the lead back in the bottom half.

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to the Tucson Invitational.
