Carter Bennett was 2-for-4 with two RBI and
Parker McGraw threw 4.1 innings of shutout relief to get the win, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team opened up the Tucson Invitational Games with a 5-2 win over Carthage on Friday.
With the win, CMS moves to 11-3 on the season, while Carthage falls to 8-4.
Bennett got CMS on the board in the third with an RBI single, before
Bryce Didrickson plated another one with a bases loaded hit by pitch.
Alex Henderson singled and stole second in the fourth and came home on an RBI single from
Nate Seluga, and Bennett added his second RBI of the day to make it 5-0.
Carthage got two runs back in the fifth, but McGraw came on in relief to end the inning with a strikeout, and then didn't allow a runner past first base the rest of the way, allowing just two singles and two hit by pitches, while the Stags turned two double plays behind him.
CMS will be back in action tomorrow for two games, facing Macalaster and Hamline before closing out on Sunday against Hamline.
