EAGLE ROCK, Calif. -
Revere Schmidt ran an 11:08.56 in the steeplechase at the Occidental Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic, finishing second overall and setting a new personal best to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team on Saturday evening.
Schmidt's previous best of 11:10.45 was set last season, and places her seventh on the CMS all-time top-10 list. SHe finished behind only Daisy Salinas of San Francisco State at the Occidental Distance Carnival, and was almost a minute faster than the next-closest Division III competitor.
Chloe Gudas ran a 2:17.61 to place 11th out of 57 runners in the 800 meters, winning her section by a half-second over Olivia Reichle of Pomona-Pitzer.
Rosemary McManus came in 20th with a time of 2:22.26.
Sally Gaskell was sixth and
Jamie Habib seventh in the 1500 meters, with times of 4:46.60 and 4:47.10, respectively, finishing in the top 10 out of 76 competitors.
Angie Gushue was 14th (17:42.99) and
Jie Yi Denise Chen 21st (17:52.17) in the 5000 meters out of 133 runners, while
Olivia Backholm (36th), Talia Green (38th) and
Brannan Rosenfeld (48th) were in the top 50.
CMS will be back in action at its next outdoor meet, when it competes at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic on March 22.
Josephine Jett is expected to qualify for next weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships when bids are announced, as she currently is tied for fourth in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles.
