CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team shut out Occidental and Hope International by identical 7-0 scores on Saturday to stretch its winning streak to 22 matches.
CMS now stands at 22-2 overall on the year, while the win over Occidental improves the Stags to 3-0 in conference play, after also picking up wins over Caltech and Redlands in the last week.
All 12 singles matches were decided in straight sets on the day, with
Anirudh Gupta the only one to play singles in both, winning 6-0, 6-2 against Occidental and 6-0, 6-3 against Hope International.
The Occidental match saw
Matthew Robinson and
Warren Pham pick up a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, which was quickly followed by
Josh Kim and
Advik Mareedu winning 6-3 at No. 1.
Brandon Vu and
Caleb Settles finished off a 7-5 comeback win on a Settles return winner on deuce point.
Mareedu,
Tarm Rojanasoonthon and Gupta all won by the identical score of 6-0, 6-2 in singles.
Rohan Yarlagadda earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5, Robinson won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2, and
Morgan Schilling earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6.
In the nightcap,
Anirudh Reddy and Rojanasoonthon won the first doubles match against Hope International 6-1 at No. 2, with Settles and Vu following with a 6-2 win at No. 1 and Schilling and Yarlagadda earning a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Reddy started the singles run with a 6-2. 6-0 win at No. 5, with Vu earning a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6, and Gupta providing the clinch with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4. Pham earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1, Settles earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3, and Kim capped off the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to face Westmont and Cal Lutheran on Tuesday.
