THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Westmont in Santa Barbara in the morning, and followed up with a 7-0 win over Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks in the afternoon to earn a pair of road victories on Tuesday.
CMS now stands at 24-2 on the season, including 24 wins in a row since dropping a pair of 4-3 decisions on opening day to Division II schools, while also moving to 5-0 in SCIAC play.
The Stags had won seven straight matches via shutout before the 6-1 win over Division II Westmont. It was nearly 7-0 as well, but
Advik Mareedu dropped his first singles match of the season to fall to 28-1. Mareedu had two match points in the second set against Auston Stone before falling 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 with the third-set tiebreaker decided 8-6.
The defeat was inconsequential to the team score, as CMS was able to win the other five singles courts.
Rohan Yarlagadda had a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles,
Tarm Rojanasoonthon earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3, and
Brandon Vu earned the clinch with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Matthew Robinson added a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 2, and
Anirudh Gupta got CMS its final point with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 4. The Stags swept all three doubles courts as well, with Amirudh Reddy and Rojanasoonthon winning 6-2 at No. 3,
Caleb Settles and Vu winning 6-3 at No. 2, and Mareedu and
Josh Kim winning 6-3 at No. 1.
The nightcap saw CMS win 7-0 as Reddy earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles,
Warren Pham earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, and
Morgan Schilling gave CMS the clinch with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. Kim followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3, Settles won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Mareedu provided the final point with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 win at No. 1 to remain undefeated against Division III opponents.
In doubles, Settles and Vu rolled to a 6-1 win at No. 2, Robinson and Pham secured the 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win at No. 3, and Mareedu and Kim earned a 7-5 win at No. 1.
CMS will be back in action on April 19 when it travels to Chapman, before finishing the regular season on April 26 at Pomona-Pitzer.
