EAGLE ROCK, Calif. -
Revere Schmidt ran a 10:59.72 to become the seventh member of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team to break 11 minutes in the steeplechase at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday evening.
Schmidt took almost nine seconds off of her previous best of 11:08.56, set earlier this season, and moves her up to No. 30 in the nation in Division III, in reach of the cutline for NCAA qualification with two more meets to run.
Schmidt also moves up to No. 6 in CMS history with her time, edging past teammate
Olivia Backholm, who broke 11 minutes at the SCIAC Championships with a 10:59.81.
In other action at the Occidental Invitational,
Jamie Habib took almost two seconds off her PR in the 1500 meters, running a 4:38.87, surpassing her previous best of 4:40.64 at the SCIAC Championships on her way to a second place finish.
Brannan Rosenfeld had a 17:37.75 in the 5000 meters, taking 40 seconds off her previous best, and
Jie Yi Denise Chen was right behind in a new PR of 17:38.76, while Backholm added a personal best 17:48.48.
Chloe Gudas had a PR in the 800 meters with a 2:17.59, edging her previous best of 2:17.95, set at the Bryan Clay Invitational earlier this year.
The Athenas will compete next weekend at the Azusa Pacific Final Qualifier, and then head to the Redlands Final Qualifier on May 14-15. The NCAA Division III Championships for those who earn qualifying marks will be May 22-25 in Geneva, Ohio.
