Sean Lee scored in his collegiate debut, but the 17th-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team dropped its season opener to No. 11 Trinity (Texas) 2-1 on Friday evening.
After the two teams played to a scoreless first half, the Tigers opened the second half with a goal from Samuel Theiss, who volleyed in a cross that took an unlucky deflection past a Stag defender.
Trinity added a second goal with 10:42 left from Adam Knutson to seemingly put the game away, but the Stags answered on a counter just over a minute later.
Atticus English stole a pass in the CMS defensive half and then played a through ball to Lee, who one-timed a shot past goalie Jayden Schell. with 9:33 to go.
The Tigers kept the defense tight the rest of the way, with
Nico McKee having one last chance with a minute to go that missed high.
Miles Demarest had four saves in the contest, three in the first half to help keep the game scoreless, while
Zeno Bang added a defensive save with Demarest out of net.
CMS will be back in action on Sunday when it completes its two-game Texas trip with a road game at Southwestern.
